Wassailing dates back to pagan times when rural revellers would gather in orchards to bless fruit trees. They would sing, drum and shout to scare away evil spirits and ensure a bountiful harvest come autumn. The term comes from the Old English 'waes hael', meaning 'be well'. Celebrations , mainly cider producers still take place today. Warm up your voice, grab your pots and pans, celebrate each year on the 17th January.
